The town of Vance claims to have the best peaches in South Carolina and it can also claim to have one of the best wide receiver in NFL history, Mike Williams.
Long before Vance had a hometown hero or groves of delicious peaches, it was on South Carolina’s historic map tracing its history back to 1766. Its Old Number Six Highway was originally a Native American trail and the town was once known as Vance’s Ferry. Its long history includes a span as a very busy crossroads and important link between Charleston and points to North Carolina and Tennessee.
Santee River traffic moved goods from the town to Charleston.
A very impressive post office building, built in 1827, was a point of pride for Vance.
