Jo is a retired art teacher. She received a degree in art from Limestone College and taught for nearly 50 years in Orangeburg and Charleston Counties. For many years Jo also offered art classes at the Orangeburg County Fine Arts Center (OCFAC) and continues to give private art lessons. She is the recipient of numbers awards and was a blue-ribbon winner in the first Rose Festival Art Competition in 1975.
Jo serves on OCFAC’s board in order to promote the arts and to help Orangeburg County become a thriving arts community. Her goal, as a board member, is to increase the number of shows and exhibits, and to bring the community to the Arts Center.
Besides serving on the OCFAC Board, Jo is a sustaining member of the Orangeburg Junior Service League, an active member of Saint Paul’s United Methodist Church, where she served on the Daycare Board. She is the founder and active member of the Garden City Stitchers, sewing “Angel” gowns for premature babies for several hospitals in South Carolina. Jo also enjoys smocking and making heirloom garments, a craft she also taught for several years.
